Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for an Airframe Stress Engineer to join our Engineering department based in Mobile, AL. Our Engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility take our aircraft from concept to customer delivery – working with production teams on every aspect of assembly from managing technical information, quality control, maintenance tasks and health & safety – along flowlines and flightlines.
Job Responsibility:
Accountability for the given approved repair, rework and troubleshooting instruction as well as for design update solutions in front of the corresponding design/stress office and authorities (EASA/FAA)
Creation / approval / authorization (release) of technical solutions including structure justification reports for repairs / reworks or design updates
Representing and acting on behalf of the Chief Engineering and the design offices of AIRBUS (by delegation) as well as design to build suppliers
Acts as an interface between the A320 Family Chief Engineer/ Design office and the Manufacturing/ Quality assurance (Operations)
To define technical solutions during NC treatment for metallic and composite structure comprising the complete primary / secondary aircraft structure
Creation, approval and monitoring of design corrective actions / improvements and preventive measures driving product improvements or non-conformity eradication
Provide engineering support to the FAL US (and to remote A320 Family FALs) during the complete manufacturing process
Creation, approval and authorization of temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) in line with design and airworthiness requirements for testing purposes
Present technical explanations/corrective actions to the flight test department and to the customer if required
Requirements:
B.S. or M.S. degree in aerospace, mechanical or aircraft construction engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience
10 years experience in the aviation industry with preference to Airbus aircraft
Capability to train towards and obtain Design Office and Chief Engineering delegations for A320 Family Aircraft
Experience in design of metallic and/or composite aircraft structure (airframe)
Experience on A320 family or other Airbus aircraft
Knowledge in fatigue and damage tolerance justification
Knowledge of stress calculations / justifications
Knowledge of aerospace materials and corresponding corrosion protection/prevention
Knowledge of repair design and stress principles
Knowledge of Aircraft configuration management rules
Knowledge of AIRBUS internal procedures, processes and tools
Experience with AIRBUS manuals (Structure Repair Manual, Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog etc.)
Demonstrated success in identifying and solving problems
Eligible for employment in the US
Willing to travel up to 10% of the time overseas and domestically within the Airbus international network, supplier and customer sites
