Job Description

Pafford EMS is accepting applications for entry level call takers at our state of the art, Hope, Arkansas 911 communications center. The center processes 911 and non-emergency requests for Emergency Medical Services from our coverage area which spans multiple states and provides dispatch and support services to the fleet of Pafford EMS ground and air ambulances on a 24 hour basis, 365 days per year.

Job Responsibility

  • Answer 9-1-1, emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Monitor multiple computer screens while gathering, prioritizing, and documenting caller information
  • Provide callers with pre-arrival instructions
  • Dispatch emergency medical (EMS) services
  • Operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), two-way radio, and other communications equipment
  • Receive, prioritize, and handle multiple simultaneous emergency and administrative phone calls
  • Process requests for emergency and non-emergency ambulance service
  • Identify the nature of the problem through questioning
  • Summarize critical information for first responders in CAD
  • Access and operate computer databases and search websites
  • Provide administrative support to the corporate office
  • Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone
  • Receive requests from public safety agencies and relay information

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Two years of work or volunteer experience with public contact via telephone, computer use and data entry (college degree can substitute)
  • Ability to speak and understand English for effective communication
  • Ability to perform oriented tasks efficiently and accurately in a fast paced, high stress environment
  • Ability to listen, speak and write articulately clearly and interact with the public, a diverse workgroup, and emergency staff without confusion
  • Ability to accurately keyboard at 30 wpm with 80 percent accuracy
  • Ability to work all shifts including holidays, weekends and mandatory overtime
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, nicotine screening, physical, and entry level competency exam prior to training
