Meta Reality Lab's mission is to help people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. As our game creation platforms evolve to become AI-native, we need skilled game makers who can champion the experience of external creators building on Meta's tools. As a 3D Artist — Prototyping & AI Production, you'll be working hands-on in Meta's emerging creation platforms, exploring game-making flows, identifying what works and what doesn't, and shaping the future of AI-accelerated game production. You'll hold both art vision and design vision, shipping best-practice reference content whilst providing clear, actionable feedback that drives platform improvements. If you're excited about defining what AI-native game making looks like in practice — and advocating for the creators who'll use these tools at scale — this is the place for you.
Job Responsibility
Strategically championing the needs of external game makers by working directly in Meta's creation platforms as a skilled practitioner, identifying friction, gaps, and opportunities across the full production flow
Shipping best-practice reference games and prototypes that demonstrate what's achievable on the platform, setting the bar for quality, creativity, and production methodology
Driving clear, well-documented feedback on AI-generated content quality — including geometry and texture output, prompt-to-result fidelity, speed, and usability — routing this to specialist and non-specialist cross-functional partners (engineering, research, product) as appropriate
Evaluating resulting gameplay quality, identifying where tooling limitations impact the player experience and proposing actionable improvements
Owning and communicating a strategic outlook for how game production workflows evolve to become AI-native, grounded in hands-on production experience and documented with clarity
Driving collaboration across art, design, engineering, and research disciplines to translate production findings into platform roadmap priorities
Mentoring other artists to develop AI-native production skills and sharing knowledge of evolving best practices across the Horizon art organisation
Requirements
6+ years working with real-time game engines in production studios
Proven effective teamwork and communication skills, with demonstrated experience explaining complex production issues clearly to both specialist (engineering, research) and non-specialist audiences
Portfolio demonstrating experienced game-making skills — showing both art direction sensibility and practical design/gameplay understanding
Demonstrated understanding of commercial game production flows: from concept through asset creation, integration, iteration, and shipping — with clear awareness of how these workflows are evolving with AI tools
Hands-on experience with AI content generation tools and workflows, critically evaluating output quality (mesh topology, texture fidelity, UV quality, prompt adherence)
Demonstrated experience crafting clear documentation, feedback, strategic recommendations, and workflow guides that drive action
Experience working in real-time game engines (Unity, Unreal, or equivalent) with a solid understanding of what makes content performant and shippable on target platforms
Solid understanding of core art fundamentals: colour theory, composition, form language, lighting, and visual hierarchy
Proven understanding of game design principles: player experience, pacing, feedback loops, and how art and design serve gameplay
Nice to have
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
Experience with proprietary creation platforms and emerging AI-native game creation tools
Experience on mobile platforms and/or VR platforms, with an understanding of their specific constraints and opportunities
Experience with procedural and AI-assisted content pipelines (ComfyUI, Midjourney, GenAI mesh/texture generation tools)
Proven track record of advocating for end-user experience within a platform or tools team
Experience defining production methodologies or best-practice documentation that others adopt at scale
Familiarity with scripting or visual scripting (Blueprint, C#, Python) sufficient to prototype gameplay and evaluate tool outputs
