1:1 send specialist – alternative provision

• Provide nurturing and consistent 1:1 support for a child with complex SEND needs
• Support the development of communication, understanding, and engagement through personalised approaches
• Implement strategies and interventions to help the child access learning and develop skills
• Use visual supports, symbols, communication strategies, and/or Makaton where appropriate
• Support emotional regulation and help the child feel safe and understood
• Recognise triggers and respond positively when the child becomes dysregulated due to difficulties understanding situations
• Encourage independence, confidence, and positive interactions
• Support the child through structured routines and clear communication
• Spend time outdoors as part of the child’s preferred activities and learning approach
• Work closely with the wider team to share observations, strategies, and progress

• Previous experience supporting children with SEND
• Experience working with children with complex needs
• Experience supporting a non-verbal child (essential)
• Understanding of communication difficulties and strategies to support them
• The ability to remain calm, consistent, and supportive when a child is dysregulated
• A flexible and creative approach to supporting learning and development
• A genuine passion for helping children reach their potential
• Eligible to work in the UK or hold a relevant work visa
• Provide an Enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one

Experience using symbols, visual timetables, PECS, Makaton, or similar communication approaches
