This rewarding role involves supporting a pupil with additional needs who requires individualised support throughout the school day. The child can present challenging behaviour and may sometimes refuse to be in the classroom. The child loves puzzles and thrives with adult support, so building a positive and trusting relationship will be key to helping him engage in learning and enjoy his time at school.
Job Responsibility:
Working 1:1 with a pupil with additional needs
Supporting with emotional regulation and engagement in learning
Using his interests to redirect focus and create a calm atmosphere
Encouraging participation in classroom activities and providing alternative support where needed
Using your patience and creativity to build a strong relationship over time
Requirements:
Previous SEND experience required, particularly with children who may become dysregulated or need extra emotional support
A background (personal or professional) in SEND, care, or mental health
A resilient, proactive, and reliable attitude
Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and supporting emotional needs
Energy, compassion, and commitment to making a positive impact
Must have the right to work in the UK or hold a valid work visa
Provide references for pre-employment checks
Hold a Children’s (or Children’s and Adults) Workforce Enhanced DBS on the update service, or be willing to obtain one
