Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Support Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school in Eastbourne. You will provide individual support to a pupil with additional learning or behavioural needs, helping them engage in lessons, build confidence and make positive progress in the classroom. This position is ideal for someone calm, patient and passionate about supporting children with SEND.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with SEND (ASD, ADHD, SEMH or learning difficulties)
  • Support learning activities and pupil engagement throughout the day
  • Assist with emotional regulation and positive behaviour routines
  • Follow pupil support plans set by the class teacher and SENCO
  • Encourage independence, confidence and social interaction
  • Work effectively with teachers, parents and outside professionals

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people (school, nursery, care, tutoring, youth work etc.)
  • Understanding of SEND, or willingness to learn
  • Calm, reliable approach to supporting behaviour needs
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Full weekday availability (Monday–Friday)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Positive, proactive and supportive attitude
