Job Description

A rewarding opportunity for someone who believes in nurturing independence, building confidence and helping every child feel valued and supported. You will provide dedicated support to a pupil with additional needs in a warm, inclusive primary setting.

Job Responsibility

  • Work closely with the class teacher to support a child’s learning, progress and wellbeing
  • Promote independence, confidence and positive self‑esteem
  • Provide 1:1 support and small‑group help, enabling full access to the curriculum
  • Use tailored strategies to meet needs identified within the child’s EHCP/IEP
  • Support inclusion, ensuring the pupil can participate fully in classroom and wider school life
  • Adapt learning tasks, scaffold activities and help reduce barriers to learning
  • Use consistent and therapeutic behaviour‑support approaches
  • Prepare and organise resources to create an engaging, accessible learning environment
  • Support with note‑taking, observations and feeding back to the class teacher
  • Use assistive technology or adapted resources to help the pupil access learning
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, support staff, parents, carers, and external agencies
  • Contribute to reviews, share observations, and help ensure everyone involved has accurate information to support the child’s progress
  • Follow all safeguarding guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education, and help promote a secure, caring and supportive environment
  • Reflect on your own practice
  • Grow your confidence through training
  • Build skills linked to SEND, behaviour support and curriculum access
  • Participate in the school’s appraisal and development programme
