About the Sr. Epic Beacon Application Analyst role

A Senior Epic Beacon Application Analyst serves as a critical bridge between clinical oncology operations and healthcare information technology, ensuring that the Epic Beacon module—a specialized software system for radiation oncology, medical oncology, and infusion services—functions seamlessly to support patient care. Professionals in this role are responsible for the full lifecycle management of the application, from initial design and configuration to ongoing maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting. They translate complex clinical workflows and operational requirements into efficient, automated system solutions, directly impacting how oncology teams plan treatments, manage therapy protocols, and document patient encounters.

Typical day-to-day responsibilities include resolving break-fix issues, performing routine system maintenance, and applying quarterly software updates to ensure reliability and compliance with healthcare regulations. These analysts collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams, including clinical staff, operational leaders, and technical colleagues, to identify pain points, clarify requirements, and validate that the system supports safe, efficient care delivery. They lead complex application initiatives, often managing project timelines and coordinating across multiple applications to implement enhancements or new functionality. A key part of the role involves mentoring junior analysts, promoting best practices, and ensuring that system governance and documentation standards are upheld. Because healthcare operations run around the clock, these professionals typically participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical system issues.

To succeed in these jobs, candidates must possess a unique blend of technical expertise and healthcare domain knowledge. Essential skills include deep proficiency with the Epic Beacon module, including protocol and therapy plan build, as well as a strong understanding of oncology workflows. Most employers require Epic certification in the relevant module, along with a minimum of two to five years of related experience. Project management experience is highly valued, as is a background in clinical systems or healthcare informatics. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is commonly required, and a master’s degree is often preferred. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities are critical, as these analysts must navigate both technical system configurations and the nuanced needs of clinicians and patients. Ultimately, these jobs demand a professional who can ensure that technology serves as a reliable, efficient partner in the fight against cancer.
