Explore exciting and impactful careers in the dynamic field of biotechnology by searching for Engineer / Sr Engineer, Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (mRNA/LNP) jobs. This specialized profession sits at the critical intersection of scientific innovation and commercial production, acting as the vital bridge that transforms groundbreaking mRNA and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) drug discovery into reliable, scalable, and high-quality medicines for patients. Professionals in Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (MS&T) are the technical stewards of the manufacturing process, ensuring that complex biological processes are executed consistently and in compliance with stringent global regulatory standards. Individuals in these roles typically bear a wide range of responsibilities centered on the entire product lifecycle. A core function involves leading and supporting technology transfers, where a process developed in a laboratory is successfully scaled up and implemented in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility. This requires deep technical expertise to analyze facility fit, identify potential gaps, and design solutions. MS&T engineers author essential technical documentation, including transfer plans, risk assessments, and process validation protocols (such as for Process Performance Qualification or PPQ). They provide direct, on-the-floor technical support during clinical and commercial manufacturing campaigns, often serving as the subject matter expert to troubleshoot issues, conduct root cause analyses for deviations, and implement corrective actions. Furthermore, they play a key role in continuous process verification (CPV), monitoring production data to ensure ongoing process robustness and facilitate improvements. The typical skill set for these jobs is both broad and deep. A strong educational foundation in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or a related life science field is standard, often accompanied by several years of relevant industry experience. Candidates must possess a solid understanding of downstream bioprocessing unit operations critical to mRNA/LNP production, such as tangential flow filtration, chromatography, and mixing. Regulatory knowledge, particularly of cGMP, ICH guidelines, and process validation principles, is imperative. Beyond technical prowess, success demands excellent project management, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills, as MS&T professionals constantly interact with Process Development, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Operations teams. Outstanding communication is essential for authoring reports, supporting regulatory submissions, and responding to audit inquiries. For scientists and engineers passionate about applying their technical knowledge to real-world manufacturing challenges and directly contributing to the delivery of next-generation therapeutics, pursuing Engineer / Sr Engineer, Manufacturing Sciences & Technology jobs offers a rewarding career path at the heart of modern biopharmaceutical production.
