Pursue a pivotal role at the intersection of data infrastructure and business intelligence by exploring Business Intelligence Starburst Administrator Operations Lead jobs. This senior-level position is central to modern data-driven enterprises, acting as the guardian and optimizer of the Starburst Enterprise platform (or its open-source counterpart, Trino). Professionals in this role are responsible for ensuring that an organization's federated data query engine is highly available, secure, and performant, thereby empowering data analysts and scientists across the company to access and analyze data from diverse sources seamlessly. A Business Intelligence Starburst Administrator Operations Lead typically shoulders a wide array of critical responsibilities. Their core duties revolve around the entire lifecycle of the Starburst platform. This includes installing, configuring, and upgrading the software, as well as managing system availability and implementing robust disaster recovery strategies. A significant part of the role involves performance tuning; they constantly monitor query activity, analyze and optimize query plans, and fine-tune resource groups and query limits to ensure efficient and fair resource utilization across user groups. They are also tasked with configuring and maintaining catalogs for a vast array of heterogeneous data sources, from data lakes like Hive or Iceberg to traditional data warehouses, troubleshooting any connectivity or metadata issues that arise. From a governance and security perspective, this lead manages user access, implementing and overseeing authentication protocols like LDAP and SSO, and enforcing role-based access control (RBAC) policies. They ensure comprehensive audit logging is in place to meet stringent enterprise security and data privacy compliance standards. Furthermore, the role has a strong operational and engineering component. This involves automating routine cluster operations, integrating platform configurations with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, forecasting capacity needs, and tracking cloud costs to optimize spending. As a lead, they develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), lead incident response and root cause analysis for production issues, and serve as the top-tier subject-matter expert (SME) providing guidance and support to other teams. Typical skills and requirements for these high-impact jobs include a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, coupled with extensive IT experience, specifically several years focused on Starburst/Trino administration and Business Intelligence tools. Proficiency in Linux and shell scripting is fundamental, as is hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration systems like Kubernetes. Certifications such as the Starburst Certified Practitioner are highly valued. Beyond technical acumen, success in this profession demands strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work under pressure, and exceptional communication and collaboration abilities to bridge the gap between infrastructure, data engineering, and business intelligence teams. For self-motivated individuals passionate about building and maintaining robust data platforms, Business Intelligence Starburst Administrator Operations Lead jobs offer a challenging and rewarding career path.
