The Nuclear Energy Optimization Engineer will be responsible for: Optimizing energy production, efficiency, and sustainability within nuclear power plants and research facilities; Analyzing reactor energy output, improving plant efficiency, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and environmental standards; Working closely with nuclear operators, mechanical and electrical engineers, and regulatory agencies to enhance the performance and reliability of nuclear energy systems.
Responsabilités:
Analyzing and optimizing the efficiency of nuclear power generation and thermal energy systems
Developing strategies to improve energy utilization, reduce waste, and enhance plant performance
Working with reactor engineers to optimize heat transfer, coolant flow, and turbine efficiency
Monitoring plant performance metrics and conducting energy audits to identify areas for improvement
Ensuring compliance with NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission), DOE (Department of Energy), and environmental regulations
Supporting research and development of new energy technologies, including advanced reactor designs and small modular reactors (SMRs)
Assisting in nuclear plant upgrades, retrofits, and modifications to enhance energy efficiency
Evaluating alternative energy integration with nuclear power, such as district heating, hydrogen production, and grid resilience
Conducting risk assessments and cost-benefit analyses for energy efficiency projects
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers, to improve plant operations
Developing technical documentation and reports, energy models, and presentations for regulatory bodies and stakeholders
Exigences:
Master’s degree in Energy Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
3-7 years in energy optimization, power generation, or nuclear engineering (entry-level positions may require internships or co-op experience)
Understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and energy conversion in nuclear systems
Proficiency in energy modeling software (e.g., RETScreen, MATLAB, Aspen Plus)
Understanding of turbine systems, steam cycles, and power grid integration
Familiarity with NRC, DOE, and EPA regulations regarding energy production and environmental impact
Ability to conduct energy audits, life-cycle assessments, and performance evaluations
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with engineers and regulatory agencies
High attention to detail and a commitment to safety and efficiency
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a high-stakes environment
Souhaitable:
PE (Professional Engineer) license, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or equivalent industry certifications
