No, a dream job isn’t only a dream. It fully depends on you. If you prepare yourself in the right way, you can get hired for your dream job. A lot of people think that a dream job means the best-paying job, but no, it means more than this. We will discuss what a dream job really is. Besides that, how can you prepare yourself to reach it?
What is a dream job? Is it a $1 million job or a job with a high position? There are different thoughts. Some people want money. Some people want. Some people want power. So, if people can get a job that fits their demands, it can be a dream job for them. Everyone has different thoughts regarding their dream job.
Now the point is, does a dream job really exist? Can a person get his or her dream job in this lifetime? Yes, they can. If they have a clear goal regarding their dream and they give effort in the right way, they can achieve it.
So, first of all, you have to find out what your dream job is in order to get hired.
Every person has different thoughts, different comfort zones, and different future plans. But all of them are on their right track because they don’t run only for money or a specific job. They defined their comfort zones, their passion, and what they liked.
Sometimes we think the best-paying job can satisfy us, but after getting hired, we become very disappointed because we cannot find happiness.
We search for job search tips for the best-paying job, but it should be specific to a person’s target, not focused on the best pay. If you can find the target, if you can ride the target, money will run behind you.
Do you know what a career means? It means going ahead step by step. It is a ride to a mountain. So, to go to the destination, you have to select the destination. Sometimes it is easy to see the final destination, but it is very difficult to reach. If you don’t set your destination, you cannot start to ride the mountain. That’s why dream setting is necessary.
Take a notebook. Write down your dream job. Make it specific: what it looks like, what industry it is in, what type of work it involves, and what kind of lifestyle it supports. The clearer the dream, the easier it is to chase.
Most of the time, we live our lives based on other people’s expectations. When we understand this, it is often too late. This happens because we don’t know ourselves. To know ourselves, we have to reflect on our lives and journeys. We have to find out our interests, our happiness, and our inspiring moments.
Sometimes we want to be a software engineer because this job is one of the best-paying jobs, or we see a lot of people living high-quality lives with this profession. Even most people are willing to do remote jobs if they are paid high. But it can happen that you have no high interest in tech-related tasks. You are not a cool-minded person. That’s why when you start to write software language, you become frustrated. You never thought that you were good at speaking. You are best at teaching people. So, you can select the software engineering sector, but as a teacher or trainer. That can be a comfort zone with a handsome salary.
So, find out your lovable things or your passionate work, the work that makes you feel happy, the work you are best at.
Take time. You can sit in a calm place. Close your eyes. Now think, what kind of work do you love? When do you feel happy? Which task or work do people praise you for? Which work, task, or activity doesn’t make you feel tired, you feel this is your place?
Now think for yourself, search on the internet, take help from experts. Which industry is connected to your work types? Suppose you are good at convincing people. You feel happy when people are convinced by you. You can convert your favorite activities into your profession. You can choose the sales industry. You can choose an insurance company where you can convince people to buy insurance packages. Also, you can be a trainer where you can convince people to take action.
So now think. In the sales sector or sales field, there are lots of struggles. Are you ready to face them? Are you comfortable traveling a lot? Are you comfortable selling your product in the field or at the route level? If not, you can also think about the training sector or teaching profession.
You have to think on a broader scale. It can also happen that you like sales but don’t want to go into the field. You can join telesales or inside sales roles. Select two or three options because it’s not always certain you can grab the exact one you want right away.
Most of you may think, “I didn’t try this before,” or “I never thought like this before.” It’s not too late. Reflect on yourself. Find out for yourself.
So, when we are clear about what we want, we have to build our skills to achieve our goal. As per your selected options, find out different types of JDs (job descriptions) or job responsibilities or job circulars. Write down what skills or requirements are necessary for your selected industry or position.
You can search job portals, job-related websites, newspapers, social media sites, social media groups, and LinkedIn for detailed knowledge.
Also, you can meet or find people who are already engaged in those sectors. It can give you a real-life idea.
It can happen that you find out your favorite sector but you do not have proper skills or recognition. Like, you want to be a graphic designer, you have basic skills but you have no certifications or formal knowledge. Besides this, you haven’t any portfolio or work samples. So, it can be a big obstacle for you. Don’t be hopeless. You can make a plan.
There are a lot of free courses from trusted sites like Coursera, Google Skillshop, LinkedIn Learning, or YouTube you can complete. For a portfolio, you can create some designs for your close people’s businesses or organizations. This plan will help you match your skills with market needs.
A lot of people get stuck in the same position or designation just because they didn’t update their skills. A formal course or degree can bring a great difference.
So, find your skills gap and fill it up.
A lot of candidates or job seekers make a big mistake. They submit the same CV or resume to all organizations or for all designations. Every organization and job circular has different criteria. So, put in a little bit of effort and make a customized CV or resume for different jobs.
Use the keywords from the job description. Highlight your relevant skills and tweak your objective or summary for each job role.
Don’t waste your time. Find out jobs and submit your CV. Besides that, keep taking interview preparation. Don’t just look for best-paying jobs or general job search tips. Be specific. Find out specific job position tips, read articles, search YouTube. Don’t forget to write down your answers to common questions and practice them in front of a mirror.
Prepare a few elevator pitches, 30-60 second versions of your professional story. Record yourself. Practice until it feels natural.
Sometimes we wait for big opportunities. We ignore remote jobs, work-from-home jobs, or part-time jobs. It kills your valuable time. You can start from small opportunities, but it will give you fuel for the long run. It will enrich your experience and CV.
Small opportunities help build confidence, networks, and real-world learning that often lead to bigger roles.
It is so tough to be patient when you don’t get a call for interviews or don’t get opportunities. Don’t be hopeless. Be focused. Try to connect with formal and informal networks in your preferred sector. Don’t stop continuous learning and personal development.
Also, engage with professionals on LinkedIn, join webinars, comment on relevant posts. Make yourself visible in your target community.
If you get your preferred job, don’t get stuck. Don’t pause. Draw a roadmap. If you enter as an executive, try to develop yourself to get promoted. If you get an opportunity as a machine operator, find out the required skills for a senior operator or supervisor. Learn practical work, build your managerial and soft skills, try to show your effort to management. You will get close to your dream job. It can be your best-paying job.
Career growth is not automatic. It requires effort, learning, and planning just like job searching.
Sometimes we plan in detail and put in effort, but this is a technological revolution period. Skill requirements are changing very quickly. Day by day, AI is taking over human jobs. Automation is minimizing the opportunity. So, be aware. If your preferred job situation is changing for any reason, try to be adaptive.
Try to learn new technology, AI tools, and other relevant industry skills. The faster you adapt, the better chance you’ll have to survive and thrive.
Job seekers complain that there are fewer opportunities. On the other side, organizations or employers claim they don’t find the right candidates or skilled employees. So, there are a lot of opportunities. They are just waiting for prepared people. Start from today. Don’t only focus on your dream. Focus on your preparation, planning, and hard work. That’s how dreams come true.
So, the final call is yours. Will you keep dreaming, or will you prepare yourself to get hired for your dream job?
